Stick to Your Guns (and feed them lots of ammo)
There’s a particular story–a favorite of mine–that I’ve been trying to publish for a while now. I wrote it specifically for a certain submissions call, edited and sent it in. The rejection came a couple weeks later. Pretty quick turn-over. I did a little revision and sent it on to another publisher. Same fate.
I did a little more tweaking, but at this point I was comfortable with what I had. I wasn’t sure if it was any good, just that I liked it. Though, I was sure I wanted it published. So, I kept sending it out. And kept getting rejected.
Finally, after the tenth try, some good news came. Great news, in fact. The “we enjoyed it immensely” sort of news that is not coupled with a “but it’s not what we are looking for right now.” I don’t really have words for how happy I am to know my pulpy, genre-fantasy, farcical, humor short-short will now have a home. And I’ll make ten bucks in the process.
Once the details are finalized, I’ll add an update to the home page. For now, the beers are on me. Hit me up if you’re going to be around the tavern in that village closest to the old ruins of Goblin Valley.
